We’re halfway through September, and that means the annual crafter and artisan extravaganza that is the Catoctin Colorfest is just weeks away.
On the second weekend of October, it feels like all of of Thurmont’s 6,000 residents get involved in this yearly blockbuster event. What began in 1963 as a nature walk has quickly evolved into a juried Arts & Crafts Show featuring 300 well known and respected artists from across the country. In fact, the Catoctin Colorfest has been recognized in Sunshine Artists Magazine as one of the top 35 shows in the United States– and is also one of the largest events of its kind on the East coast! Expect craft demonstrations, and a wide selection of delicious food of all kinds. Admission is free, but there may be a nominal fee to park. Shuttle bus service is available all day.
Last year, Flaxie Packs participated for the first time– despite the rain on Saturday, we had a stupendous show. We’re really looking forward to going back this year, this time with an even wider selection of products (YES! WE HAVE WRAPS! And wait ’til you see our special line made especially for kids!) Looking forward to seeing a lot of you.
There are booths set up all over town– lining the streets, in parking lots and at the Fire Hall. If you’re mainly interested in handmade-in-America goods (no imported or buy-sell stuff) that has been juried by the Catoctin Colorfest committee, be sure to come to the COMMUNITY PARK. That’s where we’ll be– look for the white tent with the bright yellow roof!
The Town of Thurmont is located at the base of the beautiful Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County, Maryland. It is easily accessible via route U.S. 15 and is a pleasant scenic drive from points north and south. Thurmont is approximately 50 miles from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
